KARACHI – The Master Mariners Society of Pakistan (MMSP) has decided to raise the issue of the Pakistani merchant marine officers, who are in Somalian pirates’ custody, in international forums. According to MMSP Office Secretary MM Ahmad Zuberi, the society is set to raise the captivity issue of the officers if the MMSP is approached by the officers’ families.
The case of now-deceased MMSP life-member Capt Syed Jafer Jafri was pursued at all local and international forums by the society. Concerned at the media reports about the merchant marine officers being held hostage by Somalian pirates, the MMSP has condemned the act and extended its sympathies to their families.
