Hearing of murder case against Davis adjourned until 16th

LAHORE – Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Yousaf Aoujla on Tuesday adjourned the hearing of double murder case against Raymond Davis until March 16, after handing over the copy of challan to the accused. The court continued hearing the double murder case in Kot Lakhpat jail where the accused is being held. The counsel for the complainant said, “This is a clear case and all evidence is against Raymond Davis so the court may frame the charge on the accused.”
The counsel for the accused argued that according to the law it was mandatory for the court to take at least seven days to frame the charge after delivering the copies to the accused. Concluding the arguments, the court adjourned the hearing until March 16. Davis’ counsel Justice (r) Zahid Bukhari was absent from the proceedings, however his junior lawyers were present.
Meanwhile, lawyers said the court was likely to indict Davis next week, despite US insistence he has diplomatic immunity, acted in self-defence and should be released, Reuters reported. “The lawyers of the victims pleaded that Davis be charged, but we contested it could not happen until we get complete documents on the case,” Bukhari told Reuters. “He is probably going to be charged with murder at the next hearing, which is on March 16.”
