ISLAMABAD – Christian Progressive Movement (CPM) Chairperson Naila Joseph Dayal on Monday strongly condemned the assassination of slain minority affairs minister Shahbaz Bhatti and demanded the promulgation of “Islamic Jurisprudence” in the country to stop ‘cruelties towards the minorities’. Addressing a news conference here at National Press Club (NPC), Naila dispelled the impression that some Islamist elements were behind the murder of Shahbaz Bhatti. “Islam preaches peace and love, it is unjustified to say that Muslims had killed Bhatti,” she added.
She further said that some external forces were making conspiracies to sabotage the peace in the country. “There could be some foreign forces that engineered Bhatti’s assassination,” she observed. CPM chairperson said that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers always gave their lives for the sake of democracy and for a peaceful Pakistan adding that murder of Shahbaz Bhatti was the continuation of their sacrifices. While demanding the rights for her community, Naila urged the stakeholders to ensure the separate elections for their community and implement “Sharia” in Pakistan.
