Cabinet approves assistant commissioner restoration

LAHORE – The Punjab cabinet approved the summary for the restoration of the post of assistant commissioners in its meeting on Tuesday. The cabinet approved all items on its agenda including amendments to the Punjab Local Government Ordinance and fresh rules of business after passage of the 18th Constitutional Amendment. According to the new rules of business, the powers of the governor and chief minister have been restored to their pre-1985 position. The provincial cabinet also decided to revise the working of all administrative departments while the hierarchy of revenue officials has been transferred to the provincial government instead of the local government.The cabinet also ordered forming a committee to consider legislation for enforcement of minimum wages. Amendments to the revenue laws and breast feeding and child health ordinance were also approved. The meeting also reviewed law and order, contract lists and other issues of importance.
Talking to journalists after the meeting, Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said if the federal government did not stop criticism of the Punjab government, it will also highlight the inefficiency and corruption of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He said that only the governor could ask the chief minister to take a fresh vote of confidence. Commenting on the mismanagement in the Matriculation examinations, Sanaullah said that the affected students will be allowed to re-sit in the exams. He said that the Punjab government has written to the federal government proposing suggestions for the law of evidence and a mechanism to hide the identity of judges. The law minister said that the federal government was not allowing import of the mobile tracking system.
