LAHORE – Stags and Amar Cables won the opening day matches of the 1st Amar Cables Veterans T20 Championship, which started here at the Aligarh Ground Model Town on Sunday. Sayid Paper Stags beat Lahore Whites in the opening matches of the day, while Amar Cables defeated Sayid Paper Bucks later in the evening. Stags defeated Lahore Whites by nine wickets.
Lahore Whites scored 122 runs for the loss of nine wickets, with Naveed Anjum scoring 35, and Mohammad Arshad adding 18. Stags’ Ziauddin took four wickets for 23 runs, Hafiz took three for 15 and Aamir Aziz bagged two for 27. Stags chased the target for the loss of one wicket in 15.3 overs. Hafiz Sajjad (62 not out), Qadir Shah (24) and Izat (19) were the top scorers.
Lahore’s Arshad took one wicket for 20 runs. In the second match, Amar Cables beat SPM Bucks by nine wickets. Bucks were dismissed for 90 runs. Jamshed (28), Cheema (18) were the only batsmen to offer any resistance. Cables’ Tariq bagged three wickets for 12 runs, Raju took two for two runs and Shafaqat took two for 15. Amar Cables chased the target after losing one wicket.
Dastigar Butt (43), Amir Akbar (31), Aamir Ilyas (16) led their team to victory. Javed was the only bowler to get a wicket, for 24 runs. The final of the tournament will be played on March 27. The eigth teams participating in the event have been divided into two groups with Pool A comprising SPM Stags, Lahore Mohammadens, Lahore Whites and Aligarh Seniors, while Pool B consists of Amar Cables, SPM Bucks, Lahore Tigers and Chaudhary Sports.
The organizing committee includes Ashid Qureshi, Aamir Ilyas Butt, Aizad H Sayid, Waleed Yaqub, Mohammad Kaleem, Jawaid Ashraf and Ahsan Aamir Butt.
