P&D organises a gender-based pre-budget seminar

LAHORE – Planning and Development Department (P&D) Gender Mainstreaming Unit and Home Department organized a pre-budget Seminar on Monday. P&D secretary and chief guest Ali Tahir said that the government was trying to uplift women through implementation of gender reform action plan (GRAP), social welfare, women development and Bait-ul-Maal department. He GRAP’s aim was to bring changes in the structures and processes to promote equity among men and women and to deliver rights and entitlements on to women. He said it was very necessary for the government to prepare proposals for ending gender bias in the upcoming budget.
He said the objectives of the seminar were to discuss planning and budgetary process, highlight the importance and need of gender sensitive budgeting, highlight role of government officers in the planning and budget making process and elicit recommendations from the seminar participants regarding Provincial govt’s upcoming budget (2011-2012) from gender perspective.
