Master drub Hattaf in National Polo

LAHORE – Army/Askari Bank, Master Paints and Colony Sugar returned to the polo field after a gap of more than a week to stage wins in the Bank Alfalah National Polo Championship for the Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup 2011 at the Lahore Polo Club ground. Last week, Warid had registered successive wins. The event, which was badly hit by rains in the city, resumed on Sunday. Master Paints staged the biggest win of the event when they scored a dozen goals against rivals PAF Hattaf, who managed only six. Before this match, Army/Askari Bank recorded the second biggest win of the day when they beat Guard Group/Diamond Paints by 11-3.
In Sunday’ third match, Colony Sugar were stretched to the full by Al Khan/Ciro’s Pomodoro, but secured an 8-7 win. With their latest victory, Master Paints lead the points table with a better goal average than Army/Askari Bank. Both teams have six points but Masters have played three games against Army/Askari’s four matches.
Gaston Moore posted eight of the 12 goals for Masters, with Sufi Muhammad Amir, Hissam Ali Hyder and Asif Tiwana also playing their part in the win against PAF Hattaf. Hattaf’s Pablo Begnardi was the only player to offer any resistance, with little support from Hassan Ali Farrukh and Fahd Hadeed.
Julio Nevillo Astrada scored seven of the 11 goals by Army/Askari Bank to leave Guard/Diamond’s Gerardo Mazzini helpless. Raul LaPlacette led Colony Sugar to a fighting win with Shah Qubilai Alam’s support against Al Khan/Ciro’s Pomodoro.
