Govt land worth Rs 1.88 billion retrieved from illegal possession

SAHIWAL – The Revenue Department has retrieved government land worth Rs 1.88 billion from illegal possession, including commercial and residential land in Sahiwal worth Rs 1.66 billion and 3,473 canals of agriculture land in various villages in the district worth Rs 216 million.
District Officer Revenue (DOR) Sohail Ashraf said this while disclosing the details about the action taken against Qabza mafia in a meeting held at the commissioner’s office.
He said the Revenue Department had also retrieved 384 canals of state land reserved for the Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation, including two plots measuring 24 and seven canals in Tariq bin Ziyad Colony worth Rs 136 million, 184 canals of residential land in Sharif Colony worth Rs 230 million, 45 canals of commercial plots adjacent to Faridia Park worth Rs 360 million and other residential and commercial plots in various localities in the city.
DOR Sohail Ashraf said this campaign would continue till the retrieval of all the state land from illegal possession in the district. Commissioner Qazi Muhammad Ashfaq appreciated his efforts and called the revenue officers from other districts to launch such campaigns also.
AG PUNJAB VISITS DISTRICT ACCOUNTS OFFICE: Punjab Accountant General Muhammad Jameel Bhatti paid a surprise visit to the district accounts office and inspected its various branches. He checked the official work thoroughly and expressed his satisfaction over the performance of staff.
District Accounts Officer (DAO) Muhammad Basit Chughtai who was also present on the occasion, while talking to the staff, stressed that being custodians of public money, they should maintain financial discipline at all costs and all bills should be checked before payments.
He added that auditors should also educate accounts officials of other departments in financial matters so that transparency could be made possible in money matters.
COMMISSIONER TO MONITOR UPLIFT WORK: Sahiwal Division Commissioner Qazi Muhammad Ashfaq will tour tehsil cities during the current month to monitor the development work, cleanliness, price checking and anti-encroachment drive. According to the schedule, he will visit Pakpattan on Tuesday (today), Okara on March 10, Chichawatni on March 17 and Depalpur on March 24. During these visits, he will also meet notables, traders, journalists and members of price control committees.
