Future of BTech graduates hangs in the balance

ISLAMABAD – Lack of interest on part of Ministry of Science and Technology has led to uncertainty about the future of more than fifty thousands BTech graduates, who are being refused jobs in government sector due to undefined status of their degrees.
The BTech graduates are deprived of access to higher studies and jobs in government sector, as Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) is not accepting their degrees. After the refusal of PEC, the office of Chairman Pakistan Council of Technologists in February 2010 had dispatched a bill (prepared by its own capacity) to Ministry of Science and Technology for establishment of Pakistan Technology Council (PTC), for the registration of BTech degree, however the said bill is still pending unheard with ministry.
Talking to Pakistan Today, Chairman Pakistan Council of Technologists, Sheikh Javid said that the said bill was dispatched to the Prime Minister in February 2010 and PM Secretariat forwarded it to Ministry of Science and Technology in March last year for furnishing their comments, but nothing has been done so far. “More than 50,000 BTech graduates in the country are deprived of access to higher studies, job opportunity in public departments and promotions because of undefined degree status,” he said. It is relevant to note here that BTech programme was formally launched in 1973 and the then Ministry of Education directed to give status of BTech (Hons) degree at par with BSc Engineering/BE degrees, but now PEC has refused to recognize B.Tech degree.
Sheikh Javid said that after completion of their degrees a large number of BTech graduates were going to abroad for seeking better opportunities for job. “PEC can’t merely be blamed for not accepting our degrees rather all those institutes that are offering this program are equally responsible for playing with our futures as they don’t inform the students about the status of degree at the time of admission, said Muhammad Ali, a BTech graduate. Director General Accreditation and Attestation at HEC, Rahim Bux Channa confirmed BTech (Hons) degree was at par with BSc Engineering/ BE degrees.

  1. The B.Tech students should give equal oppertunity both for higher education as well in government jobs. The government should solve this issue otherwise they should banned such institutions not to spoil the futures of our young generations.

  2. Pakistan current government shows they are not sincere with the future of Pakistan. And they prove so many time their motive only corruption and destruction of Pakistan and students of Pakistan particularly B-tech, if we see our neighbor country India their Btech degree value is greater than BE and also public and private sector prefer B-tech degree for the valuable jobs.
Who is take initiative to ascertain status of B-tech degree in Pakistan? And give chance of proud to be having B-tech degree.

  3. i would like to say that, if we are not eligible for jobs on engineer posts, then ok.
but please give us a chance to study further (mean MS & PHD),because this is a symbol of high level of guilty for those who blocked our future.

  4. dear friends don't waste time in doing b-tech. b-tech is un defined degree in our country pakistan. do B.E only otherwise you ppl will cry for rights till judgment day. it is fact. well unfortunatily i am b-tech degree holder.

  5. PEC is enemy of b tech graduate due to professional jealousy. b tech degree holders are working in the country and abroad better then thes test tube engineers (BE) I believe that govt of pakistan specially pakistan peoples party will solve this burning issue as early as possible.b tech degree holders are facing lot of problems in pakistan due to pakistan engineering council because the BE engineers are beloging to elite class.there is no justice in pakistan due to this pakistan economy is near to moribund position. i am living in canada here no discrimnation between diploma or degree.i am working in care manufacturing factory our General manager is diploma in die making and production manager is technologest.i again appeal topresident of pakistan toresollve this isse as soon possible and i hope that induction of b tech engineers in industries will fruit ful for our country (PAKISTAN) FAROOQ CANADA

  6. We the b-tech engineers respect the b.sc engineers . But why they are not accepting and recognizing our degree.while they know that b-tech engineers are the best engineers.Pakistani government shoud get the step for the issue of Pakistan technology concile for the better future of Pakistan. As in whole the world in India , America and Uk the people firstly respects the b-tech engineers and then the B.sc engineers so the government should solve this critical issue.

    • Dear salahuddin we b tech engineers always respect the BE engineers but these people not respecting us.after 1976 the day when pec established they treated us as a enemy.they blocked our promotion our induction in government institutions and everywhere in pakistan.i pray for all b tech engineers that almighty help them for their peaceful struggle.

  8. Pakistan Technology Council will be announced soon IN Sha Allaha and after accrediation and registration of B.Tech Graduates ,we have to start an other movement for further rights like Higher study M Tech,M Phil and PHd in Public sector Engineering universities and service structure and allocation of seats in Public sector departments and private sector as well. Moreover Key posts in PTC, "Pakistan Technology Council " should be filled by B.Tech Graduates only.all these problems we have to face near future……… Riaz Feroze 00971 56 6397553 ([email protected])

  9. The demand for the technolgy council is fare.we r facing problem in real bcoz of monopoly of PEC.I think some engrs feel threat from b.tech graduates as they defeated them in technical fields. We r struggling for separate council for b.tech graduates.I m confident about our success soon.

  10. It is only a monopoly of PEC but in rest of world B.Tech degree is equivalent to B.Sc engineering. In our neighbour country India top students take admission in B.Tech and second priority is BE.England engineering council accept B.Tech(Hons) equivalent to BE.Also international engineering council accept to B.Tech (Hons) equivalent to BE.It is simply monopoly of PEC.
