LAHORE – The chehlum of three Pakistanis killed by United States national Raymond Davis and his colleagues was held separately here on Sunday. The political leaders who had earlier sympathised with the families of the deceased stayed away. The chehlum of Faizan, Faheem Haider and Ibad-ur-Rehman was held at their respective residences and a large number of people attended to show solidarity with the families of the deceased. Forty days had passed and the families are hopeful about receiving justice from the courts of law.
“Raymond might be charged with punishment on the next hearing,” Faheem’s brother, Waseem told Pakistan Today. He said that immunity had been refused by the courts in the last hearing. He said his family did not want any aid and they did not have any back-door deal with either the government or the US. Imran Haider, brother of the deceased Faizan, told Pakistan Today that they had been strict to their stance and no one can change their decision as they wanted full judicial remand of Raymond in Pakistan.
He denied media reports that they had made a deal with the US. He said the family was not under pressure by anyone and was waiting for Davis to be charged. Sajjad ur Rehman, brother of Ibad ur Rehman, said the family was going to file a petition against the federal government and the foreign ministry for not being so potent in resisting American pressure.
