LAHORE – Christian Lawyers Association in Pakistan (CLAP) on Monday held a protest rally, led by Supreme Court Bar Association President Asma Jahangir, from Lahore High Court to Punjab Assembly Building in condemnation of former minister for minority affairs Shahbaz Bhatti’s assassination. Protesters held placards and banners demanding the early arrest of the killers and for the protection of the minorities. The rally comprising around two dozen Christian lawyers was provided strict security. Addressing the rally, Durrani said that Shahbaz Bhatti’s murder was an example of terrorism, sectarianism and religious extremism.
He said this murder was not only a threat for Christian community but also for other minorities in the country. He said this murder brought bad name to the country all over the world. He said minority minister’s assassination had left a message that religious extremis, terrorism, and sectarianism were taking stronghold in the country. He said it also had proved that the government was failed in maintaining basic rights and protecting freedom of speech.
Durrani said that minorities’ rights were being snatched and Shahbaz Bhatti’s assassination was a national loss.
