PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar formally launched a Three-Day Polio Eradication Campaign at a ceremony held at the Governor’s House Peshawar on Monday with a target to vaccinate 4.9 million children under five years of age in the province and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). To achieve this target, 22,512 teams will be supervised by 13,000 trained lady health workers who have been engaged to reach each and every child of the desired age during the campaign.
In all 2,771 supervisors including 549 lady health workers are also directly supervising the campaign in FATA.
The governor said the promotion of awareness was very important to ensure accessibility to each and every child and there was a need to aggressively peruse the targeted polio eradication plan. Provincial Health Minister Syed Zahir Ali Shah, who was also present at the occasion, said the department was following a concrete plan of action constituted under the directives of the governor and the chief minister for getting rid of the menace of polio. The FATA administration secretary said the involvement of political administration in FATA had helped in overcoming hurdles.
