LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the parliamentary group of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q has improved the image of politicians by upholding democratic norms and values, rather than hankering after power. He said that the move would usher in a new era of politics of principles.
Addressing the PML-Q parliamentary group at the CM Secretariat, the chief minister said that the decision of the parliamentary group had not only enhanced their respect, but also strengthened democratic process in the country.
He said democracy was a means of serving the people and assembly members should supplement his efforts for the betterment and uplift of the masses, so that the people could see a change in the education, health, law and order and other sectors in the next two years. Pakistan, especially Punjab, was standing at a critical juncture of its political history, he said, adding PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had adopted a sagacious attitude for the stability of democracy and promotion of democratic traditions.
He said that Nawaz Sharif had presented the 10-point national agenda for the solution of people’s problems, stability of democracy, elimination of corruption, supremacy of law and solution of other important issues, but the Pakistan People’s Party did not implement the agenda. Shahbaz said “moral and political support of the PML-Q parliamentary group is with us and the group also stood by us during the Governor’s rule.”
He said no member of the parliamentary group had asked for any ministry and this decision had increased their respect and silenced detractors. The chief minister thanked the group, saying their decision would give a new dimension to politics. He said that it was the collective responsibility of elected representatives to spare no effort for the service of the people and follow the process of mutual consultation for resolving the problems of the masses.
He said that an effective strategy would have to be evolved for the resolution of the people’s problems. Senior Adviser Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan, Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Khawaja Ahmad Hassaan, leader of parliamentary group Dr Tahir Ali Javed and Mian Atta Muhammad Manika were present in the meeting.
