PESHAWAR – The Swiss high-level delegation called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Barrister Masood Kausar at the Governor’s House on Saturday and informed him about the efforts of the government and the people of Switzerland for ensuring socio-economic uplift programmes. The delegation led by Swiss Development Corporation Director General Martin Dahinden consisted of the South Asia Division head and the Swiss Ambassador in Pakistan, Christopher Bubb besides others.
The governor welcomed the delegation and said “Extremism and terrorism are the common challenges and we appreciate the Swiss cooperation in the field of socio-economic uplift”.
He said the situation people had gone through was not less than a world war, wherein our infrastructural facilities including primary schools and basic health units had also been destroyed. He further said that despite poor literacy rate and economic problems, people and the security forces were courageously confronting the militancy.
Martin Dahinden said Switzerland wanted to further strengthen its cooperation with Pakistan especially in its federally administered tribal area (FATA) for socio economic uplift.
Meanwhile, talking to a representative delegation of elders from Hangu, the governor said that primary education coupled with provision of job opportunities to local people and other civic facilities were their priority projects. The delegation considted of Yahya Qureshi, Malik Rais Bangash, Malik Younas Khan, Malik Mumtaz, Malik Riya Khan, Hafiz Habib Noor Orakzai, Mian Farid Gul, Syed Jawad Hussain, Haji Muhammad Rafique Orakzai and Farooq Bangash.
While talking to the delegation, he said the restoration of peace and harmony in the society was in the best interest of all the people and there was a need to promote awareness among the people. He added that people also needed to overlook their petty issues and promote a cooperative, accommodative and tolerant atmosphere in the society.
