ISLAMABAD – The Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Saturday asked the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to speed up investigation into corruption and embezzlement cases and submit inquiry report to committee on monthly basis. The Senate body met here under the chairmanship of Senator Talha Mehmood to discuss current status of corruption/ embezzlement cases/inquiries of Health Department, Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) pending with FIA investigation.
Senators including Dr Abdul Malik, Najma Hameed, Kazim Khan, Haji Adeel, Gulshan Saeed, Nayyar Hussain Bokhari, Almas Perveen, Syed Tahir Hussain Mashahadi, Secretary Interior Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, DG FIA Waseem Ahmad, acting Chairman FBR and other concerned officials were present in the meeting. The committee directed FIA to initiate inquiry against former director general health department Dr Juma Khan, Drug Controller Sheikh Ansaar and Rauf Khalid for granting permission of a banned substance in more than required quantity.
Committee was informed that DG Health allowed import of said drug in 9000 kg whereas country’s requirement was only 1000kg. Chairman committee observed that billions of rupees were involved in the scam so FIA should launch an inquiry into it and keep committee secretariat informed about progress on monthly basis.
Senate Standing Committee also sought complete records from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) pertaining to the allotment of 3192 plots in the settled sectors of Islamabad in violation of CDA rules, costing around Rs 70 billion to the national exchequer. The committee observed that as many as 3192 plots were allotted to different people in the posh and settled areas of the capital, particularly during the tenure of the former CDA chairman. The committee directed CDA chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi to present complete report on this.
The committee also sought the details from the CDA about those senior bureaucrats, who have managed to get double allotments. Moreover, the details of the officials were also sought. The committee also directed CDA and FIA to immediately provide the report about the recent scam pertaining to the allotment of 4,000 agro plots in the Kurri Road by former CDA director land Waseem Shamshad.
