PRSP trains officers for SRSCP

LAHORE – Scaling up Rural Sanitation for Child Protection and survival through WASH Project (SRSCP) of the Punjab Rural Support Program (PRSP) arranged one-day training of trainers of government officials in Kot Addu on Sunday. More than two hundred officers from PHED, education, health and TMA participated in the training.
PRSP Regional Manager Niaz Hussain briefed the participants about objectives and scope of the project. He said the project would address 36,720 households and 266,124 people in 11 Kot Addu UCs for creating awareness about hygiene level, ultimately leading the target population for behavior change in favour of latrine usage, hand washing with soap at appropriate times and clean drinking water usage.
He said that sanitation demand creation through social mobilization would be supplemented though IEC material and a mass media campaign whereas the sanitation demand would be sustained through a sanitation mart. He said government departments’ role in achieving the total sanitation goal was very important.
Project Manager Muhammad Farooq said civil society and public sector could support the rural sanitation project by working together. PRSP Muzaffargarh District Manager Khalid Latif briefed the participants about ongoing project-related activities in Muzafagarh such as community resource persons’ selection as well as their training and role in successful implementation of the project. He thanked the participant for making the event successful.
Education District Officer Abdul Ghaffar Langa, Public Health XEN Rao Muhammad Qasim, MS Zia and TMO Malik Khadim Hussain also talked about the importance of the project and promised complete support for its successful implementation.
