LAHORE – The Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC), in collaboration with the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) and a non-profit organisation, Aghaz-e-Nau, organised a seminar on “Hazards of Drugs” on Saturday. Renowned scholars, philanthropists and others attended the seminar. The main focus of the seminar was to introduce the “Drug Free Lahore City Project” and educate students about the hazards of drugs. The project is part of the visionary struggle of making Pakistan a drug-free country. Speakers informed the students about the hazards of drugs and discussed the impact of drugs on various aspects of life.
A slide-show was presented by Aghaz-e-Nau, which showed that drug addiction is a brain disease which could be cured with a structured drug rehabilitation programme. Maria Ali explained the role of ANF in curbing drug supply and also discussed the role of educational institutions in drug abuse prevention. Students delivered speeches, presented short acts, read poems and sang songs to highlight the hazards of drugs. ANF Deputy Director General Altaf Qamar said that it would take three years to complete the “Drug Free Lahore City Project”.
He urged non-governmental organisations (NGO), the print and electronic media and educational institutions to play a vital role in eradication of drugs.
