ISLAMABAD – NADRA would soon be launching a women registration drive across the country to achieve the target of 100 percent women’s registration by making them aware of the importance of registration in getting their basic rights. According to a statement issued by NADRA Deputy Chairman Muhammad Tariq Malik on Saturday, the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on March 8 would be marked by NADRA with the commencement of free registration for unregistered women in the country through various programmes and incentive-based schemes. “With around 51 percent majority, women are a vital segment of our society and we can’t progress and earn a respectable place in the international community without their unhindered participation in all spheres of national life,” he added.
He said NADRA was making all-out efforts to get the adult population in Pakistan, especially women, registered in the minimum possible time to facilitate them in getting education, health, employment and other facilities. Malik added that the registration ratios in some areas had been very low and that social norms, illiteracy, poverty and female mobility issues were the major factors behind this lack of awareness about the benefits of registration.
The press release further said approximately 74 percent women had been registered in the country. Azad Kashmir and Islamabad regions had the highest percentage of registered females with 96 percent and 90 percent respectively. On the other hand, percentage of women registration in FATA and Balochistan was at the lowest with approximately 44 percent and 56 percent women respectively registered in the database.
