ISLAMABAD – The government has convened a meeting of provinces to settle the issue of granting new petroleum concessions agreements for exploration and production of oil and gas on March 10. An official source stated that the meeting has been called to sort out issues arising after the passage of 18th amendment that has given all the rights over mineral resources to the provincial governments.
The Petroleum Secretary would chair the meeting in the absence of the petroleum minister, as the prime minister was holding charge of the ministry. The meeting would discuss the modus operandi of exploration and production of oil and gas activities in the light of the 18th Constitutional Amendment. Under the new article 172(3) in the constitution, respective roles of federation and the provinces requires redefining mechanism to execute policy issues in light of the 18th amendment.
