JI and ISO hold anti-Davis rallies

LAHORE – The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and the Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) organised separate protests against the US and American national Raymond Davis on Sunday.
The ISO held a rally from the Lahore Press Club to the Punjab Assembly. The protesters chanted anti-US slogans and announced that they would launch an anti-US movement. They hanged Davis’ effigy and burnt it afterwards along with a US flag. ISO President Rehman Shah said that the US was responsible for all incidents related to blasphemy and the US embassy was the “centre of espionage. He said that if the public “wakes up” then US supporters could be unmasked.
The JI organised an anti-US protest on Multan Road. JI chief Munawar Hassan said that the Punjab government had failed to arrest the four men travelling in the vehicle which killed Pakistanis. He criticised US President Barack Obama for seeking immunity for Davis. JI Secretary General Liaqat Baloch said that JI’s lawyers were preparing the first information report (FIR) to be filed for arresting Ibadur Rehman’s killers. JI Lahore chief Amirul Azeem said that it is a shame that despite passage of 40 days, Ibad’s murderers have not been arrested.
