ISLAMABAD – The investigators probing assassination of federal minister Shabaz Bhatti Sunday said they have found ‘tangible clues’, which they believe could help them trace main culprits. Police sources said that the investigation team had obtained CCTV footage from a hidden camera installed at the office of a travelling agency close to murder site. They said they had obtained registration plate for car used by assailants and that they had impounded the vehicle from Rawalpindi. Sources said vehicle had been registered by the Lahore Excise and Taxation Department. Pakistan Today learnt that the investigators also recorded statement of a lady doctor who frequently visited the slain minister’s house.
Naveed Ashraf, who had rented out House No 764 in Sector I-8/3 to Shahbaz Bhatti told the police slain minister had introduced the lady doctor to him as his wife. At the time of agreement, Shabaz said that his wife, mother and brother lived in the house. Sources said investigators also arrested Gul Sher, the driver of slain minister as there had been contradictions about his statements. He had said he ducked down in the car when it came under gunfire. But two witnesses had told police that the driver escaped when the car was intercepted by the attackers. Shahbaz Bhatti, 42, was shot dead in an ambush on March 2nd.
