CDA seeks Rs 8.4b in next budget

ISLAMABAD – The cash strapped government whose capability to present next budget is being questioned by the opposition is proposing a spending of Rs 144 million on security systems, elevators and kitchen of Aiwan-e-Sadr. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sent proposal of 40 projects under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) to Finance Ministry worth Rs 8.4 billion for financial year budget 2011-2012 including proposed expenditure of Rs 144 million for Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The CDA has demanded of the government in next budget Rs 54.8 million for strengthening of security system at Aiwan-e Sardar, Rs 50 million for the rehabilitation of lifts installed at Aiwan-e-Sadr and for the up gradation of Kitchen in Aiwan-e- Sadar Rs 40 million have been demanded by the CDA.
In the budget 2010-2011 the government has approved 10 PSDP projects of worth Rs 2.3 billion.
The 40 proposed projects included 20 new projects and 20 on going projects, an official told Pakistan Today. He said that other new projects include Rs 50 million construction work for official residence for the Senate chairman in the minister enclave, security measures for judges enclave with Rs 11.305 million, construction of administration block of parliament house with Rs 500 million, construction of mini market, community center and tuition center for children of PE colony of Aiwan-Sadar of Rs 100 million, construction of 16 flates for AGPR in sector G-9/2 of Rs 79 million, construction of 50 men barracks near reception in Aiwan-e- Sadar of Rs 20 million and grade separation facility at intersection of 9th avenue and IJ principal road of Rs 700 million.
Similarly Rs 1000 million have been demanded for widening of IJP road from GT road to Faizabad Interchange, installation of Light Emitting System (LES) screen at Jinnah Convention Center of Rs 82 million, installation of security system around Faisal Mosque of Rs 7.1 million and replacement of carpet in Faisal Mosque of Rs 14.1 million.
He said that Rs 100 million demanded for maintenance of Faisal Mosque, construction of Chirah Dam of Rs 1800 million, land acquisition for conduction of water from Indus River System at Tarbela Dam Rs 238 million, conduction of water from Indus River System at Tarbla Dam of Rs 272 million, Feasibility study of up-gradation of water supply network of Rs 184.4 million and Rehabilitation/ reconstruction of water supply network in Islamabad of Rs 200 million.
The ongoing projects includes construction of residential and non residential accommodation for police with Rs 99.27 million, construction of residence of National Assembly speaker with Rs 14.5 million, construction of flat for AGPR in sector G-9/2 worth Rs 60 million, security arrangements at Parliament House with Rs 43.4 million and construction of 2nd hanger at heliport with Rs 71.2 million.
