ISLAMABAD – The government is heading towards a confrontation with the judiciary by not sacking FIA Director General Waseem Ahmed despite a Supreme Court (SC) order to remove him within three days that ended on Friday, as no notification in this regard was issued suggesting that the government would not take dictation from the judiciary in administrative matters.
It was for the third time on Tuesday that the SC asked the government to sack the FIA DG and all other officials employed on a contractual basis after their retirement. The SC had told the government on March 1 to immediately remove Ahmed for allegedly interfering in the Haj scam case despite restrictions imposed by the court two months ago.
Establishment Secretary Abdul Rauf Chaudhry said that so far, PM Yousaf Raza Gilani had not given any orders regarding the termination of the DG’s contract, and that the case of the rest of the employees the court had ordered the government to terminate was also under the PM’s consideration. Eleven top officials in parliament are reportedly working on contracts after retirement as well.
A parliament source told Pakistan Today that seven retired officials were working on contracts in the National Assembly (NA), while four top Senate officials were on extensions after reaching retirement age.
