RIO DE JANEIRO – A truck and a bus collided in the southern state of Santa Catarina Saturday, killing at least 22 people as Brazil celebrated Carnival, Folha de Sao Paulo reported.
Police told the daily the bus was carrying 47 passengers when it struck a truck near the town of Descanso, 690 kilometers (430 miles) west of the state capital of Florianopolis near Brazil’s border with Argentina.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Santa Catarina police did not immediately return calls seeking confirmation of the report. It comes as Brazilians take to the roads in large numbers for the Carnival celebrations.
