WASHINGTON/AL-UQAYLA/CARACAS – The United States is examining the “full range of options” in dealing with Libya, President Barack Obama said on Thursday, saying he did not want to be “hamstrung.”
“In addition to the nonmilitary actions that we’ve taken, I want to make sure that those full range of options are available to me,” he said. Asked whether that included the imposition of a no-fly zone over Libya, he said, “That is one of the options that we would be looking at.”
Obama said the priority now was to provide humanitarian assistance as thousands of people flee the unrest in Libya. But he said Libyan leader Moamer Gaddafi was encouraging violence against unarmed citizens.
