LAHORE – The Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) called for a Parliamentary Committee’s apology on Friday for not accepting the Judicial Commission’s recommendations and four Lahore High Court (LHC) judges’ dropped extension. JAP also disapproved of the resolutions presented to the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) against Geo Group and demanded an investigation into matter. The panel meeting, presided over by Muhammad Azhar Siddique, said it was not morally appropriate that group was penalised without giving it a right to defend itself.
They said, “Our Constitution under article 19 and its clause 19a provided for freedom of expression, therefore any act gagging the media voice must not happen without reaching the bottom of the matter.” The body also lauded the Supreme Court stay against the Parliamentary Committee’s decision to drop four LHC judges’s extension and not accepting the Judicial Commission’s recommendation to grant them service extensions.
