KARACHI – At least five people, including a policeman, were gunned down by unidentified armed persons on Thursday in a fresh wave of violence in the metropolis. Two neighbours, one of them a police officer, were shot dead by unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle while they were sitting inside the parking area of the Sindh Government Qatar Hospital (SGQH) in the Orangi Town.
The deceased identified as Muhammad Saleem, 38, son of Abdul Majeed, and Abdul Rashid Khan, 29, son of Abdul Hafeez Khan, were residents of Mujahidabad, Orangi Town. Orangi Town police said Saleem was a police constable deputed at the Orangi Town police station and also operated a cable television network in the area as part-time business.
A 35-year-old man identified as Mumtaz alias Munna, son of Altaf Hussain, was gunned down by unidentified armed persons outside the Gulshan Complex Apartments near Jauhar Mor. Shahrah-e-Faisal police said the victim might have been killed over old enmity. A 40-year-old man was killed by the firing of unidentified persons in Sector 11-D, North Karachi.
Bilal Colony police said the body of the victim identified as Hassan, son of Alam Shah, was handed over to his heirs after medico-legal formalities at the ASH. A man was killed in cross-firing between two armed groups in Agra Taj Colony, Lyari. Kalri police said Jan Muhammad, son of Lal Bux, was killed in a clash outside Juna Masjid when the two groups resorted to straight firing on each other.
