LAHORE – The Farmers Associates Pakistan (FAP) has a vision of working not only for the capacity building of farmers but also to introduce the concept of sustainable agriculture. It is working for achievement of yet another dream “The Next Green Revolution” in Pakistan.
FAP officials are now celebrating its 20th anniversary. The association was established in 1991 by its founder members Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Malik Khuda Bux Bucha (Late), Malik Afaq Ahmad Tiwana, Khurshid Zaman Qureshi, Qaiser Zulfiqar Khan Daha, Sheikh Muhammad Naseem, Syed Iqbal Mustafa (Late), Brig Ghazanfar Muhammad Khan (Late) and Mian Noor Ahmad Hotiana, with a purpose of serving the cause of farmers of Pakistan, their capacity building and for upgrading information pertaining to modern farming trends for better productivity, viability and improvement in their standard of livelihood.
Since its inception in 1991, FAP has conducted various seminars such as “FAP’s Vision about sustainable growth of the national economy and its linkage with “Rural and Agriculture Sector” in collaboration with CIDA, World Bank and PARC, Agriculture department of Punjab, Punjab Water Council, ginners, growers and above all with the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
It has been instrumental in conveying the concerns of farmers such as agriculture policies, matters pertaining to water, its distribution and for the determination of the prices of various crops such as wheat, rice, maize, sugarcane, cotton etc. with the government.
It is the sustained effort and contribution of FAP through its members that Pakistan is in a position to export wheat, rice, meat, besides opening new avenues of export of Pakistani mangoes to European countries and USA; thereby resulting in stabilisation of economy in these difficult times.
FAP has also adopted a positive approach by forming an “Agro Industrial Coordination Council” with Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and in 2010 a “Pakistan Cotton Forum” with All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) and Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) as members. FAP has 27 elected members of its Board of Directors and its accounts are regularly audited besides tax returns submitted every year.
