KARACHI – Fifty percent of the security expenditures incurred by the DCO Secretariat have been curtailed, with the move set to start the process of cutting back non-development expenditures in the City District Government Karachi (CDGK).
A decision to this effect was taken by Karachi District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed at a meeting on Thursday with EDOs and departmental chiefs that was held at the DCO Secretariat.
The meeting was summoned to review pssoible reductions in non-developmental expenditures, including those of petrol and diesel. Syed directed all EDOs and departmental chiefs to slash all unnecessary expenditures incurred on hiring private security. The DCO said that expenditures on hiring private security guards amounted to Rs120million, and these needed to be reduced in an attempt to save the city government’s funds.
He also ordered the departments to seek prior permission from the DCO Secretariat before hiring any private security guards from now on.
