LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) ordered the police on Friday to quash a case registered under the Hudood Ordinance against a 60-year-old man on rape charges.
The Civil Lines police had registered a case on October 5, 2010 against Ishaq for raping a 26-year-old girl. The girl had alleged that she gave Rs 30,000 to Ishaq for sending her to Dubai but he cheated on her and subjected her to rape. Challenging the FIR, Ishaq pleaded that the complainant dragged him into the case only to mint money from him. He requested the court to order the police to quash the registered FIR. A DSP appeared in court on Friday and stated that the medical report of the complainant did not confirm rape, at which point the court ordered the police to cancel the FIR against the accused.
LHC SEEKS REPLY ON DSPs’ PROMOTIONS: LHC Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Friday sought a reply from the Punjab police inspector general (IGP) on a writ petition filed by 10 DSPs questioning an ‘unnecessary’ delay in their promotion to the rank of SP.
Arif Rasheed and others filed the petition submitting that their promotion to the rank of SP had been due for many years but the department’s high-ups had not granted them promotion so far. Petitioners said the Supreme Court had also ordered the department to promote them but the authorities ignored that order too. They prayed the court that the IGP be directed to implement the orders of the apex court and award them their due promotion. After hearing the petitioners, Saeed directed the IGP to file his reply by March 14.
