KARACHI Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will administrate oath to the newly-elected office bearers of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) on March 5, KBA office bearers announced on Thursday at Karachi bar association office.
Addressing a press conference at the KBA office, the association’s president, Muhammad Aqil Awan, and secretary-general, Syed Hyder Imam Rizvi, said that the oath-taking ceremony will be held at the premises of the Sindh High Court, with the CJP invited as as the chief guest.
“It is the first time in KBA’s history that a bar’s ceremony is being organized at a large scale,” the KBA officers boasted. The ceremony is likely to be attended by large numbers of judicial and legal fraternity, including judges and sub-judicial staffers of all five district courts of Karachi, judges of the anti-terrorism courts, banking courts and other courts, members of the Pakistan Bar Council from Sindh, presidents and secretaries of all 24 districts’ bars of Sindh, and representatives of the Sindh Bar Council.
The KBA officials said that security arrangements will be finalized at a high-level meeting on Saturday. The meeting, convened by the Supreme Court registrar, will be attended by the Karachi CCPO, DG Rangers (Sindh), DIG Special Branch, representatives of bars and other relevant officials. Replying to a question, Awan said that the purpose of organising such a grand ceremony was to prove that the legal fraternity was still united, and no conspiracy could divide the legal fraternity.
The KBA officials strongly condemned recent incidents of violence against the judicial and legal fraternity, including the kidnapping of two judges and lawyers in Balochistan, missing of two staffers of Malir district court, and the attack on former KBA secretary Zahid Hamid’s residence. The press conference was also attended by KBA office bearers Zulfiqar Solangi, Amir Maqsood, Ghulam Mustafa among others.
