ISLAMABAD – Expressing serious concerns over non-production of record by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) before federal audit authorities, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC)’s special team on Thursday said all the public sector entities must be audited under the government’s rules of business.
Zahid Hamid chaired the committee meeting. The audit accounts of the Ministry of Defence and Defence Productions for the year 1992-93 and 2001-02 were reviewed. The auditor general of Pakistan showed serious reservations on FWO’s failure to justify the missing of Rs 10 billion form the authorized account maintained by FWO. Even, the official could not produce the relevant record in his explanation.
The FWO officials contended that an amount of Rs20 billion was outstanding in lieu of construction work in various government departments of the organization. The missing of Rs 10 billion from FWO accounts was the result of error in documents. The official reply of FWO personnel did not satisfy the committee and PAC directed the auditor general to sit with them and submit a comprehensive report on the missing amount within 15 days.
While reviewing the Civil Aviation Authority’s accounts (CAA), the committee was astonished to know that the authority did not recover Rs 20.78 million from various government departments in last 20 years on account of using of their facilities.
