LHCBA to take up lawyers’ assault case in house meeting

LAHORE – A general house meeting of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) will be held on Friday (today) to discuss two resolutions tabled on Thursday in condemnation of alleged attack on former chairman of Pakistan Bar council (PBC) Malik Kazim and his son on the premises of Supreme Court. Two local lawyers Malik Muhammad Awan advocate and Chaudhry Jawad Zafar Advocate tabled separate but identical resolutions in the LHCBA requesting the secretary of the bar to call the bar’s general house meeting immediately to register protest against the incident in which, they said, senior lawyers leaders and his son were tortured and humiliated in public by members of a private TV channel.
The LHCBA’s secretary summoned the general house meeting of the bar for Friday (today) by accepting the condemnation resolutions which also demanded proper investigation into to the matter and action against the media group which backed the misadventure against Malik Kazam to stop him from appearing from PTV side in the case against the private channel. According to the resolutions Malik Kazam and his son appeared before the Supreme Court bench as lawyers of PTV in a case against a private TV channel and when they came out of the courtroom they are taunted and insulted by some unknown men allegedly on behalf of the a private TV which was rival party in the case.
The lawyers through the resolutions condemned the incident terming it insult of the whole lawyers’ community where feelings resentments are high all over the country against the open aggression against lawyers’ leaders and his son. The lawyers demanded the all bars of the country should show solidarity and condemn the act.
