KESC strikes again with change of load shedding schedule

KARACHI – While the citizens of Karachi are braving the unabated power outages, the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has changed the schedule of load shedding by increasing the duration of outages.
Soon after the change of the schedule, many areas of the city have started facing the more hours of power breakdowns. Residents in various parts of Gulistan-e-Jauhar – including Mosamiat, Safoora Goth, Pehalwan Goth and Jauhar Chowrangi – reported bearing long hours of long load shedding from Monday.
Not only have the timings of the breakdowns been changed, but the residential consumers of the KESC complained that the company has also subtly increased the timing of load shedding. The residents of the Mosamiat area complained that they faced four spells of load shedding lasting more than an hour on Wednesday, whereas they had faced frequent power breakdowns on Tuesday.
The residential consumers in other areas – including PIB Colony, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir Cantt, Keamari, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Lasbela, Tariq Road, North Nazimabad and Korangi – also complained about increased load shedding.
Sources said that the new schedule was applied without issuing any notification, which is a violation of consumer rules set by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which says that in the event of planned power supply interruptions, a notice shall be served to all affected consumers at least 48 hours in advance.
