Kashf hands over houses among flood affectees in Kot Addu

LAHORE – Kashf Foundation initiated re-construction in the flood affected village “Manna” in Kot-Addu Tehsil, Muzaffargarh District after the successful completion of its relief phase. Kashf’s Managing Director Roshaneh Zafar distributed the keys of the newly constructed one room shelters with washrooms to the women of 114 flood affected families.
Ms Zafar explained the importance of building back better, stating: “quality and strength of houses built is highlighted as a crucial aspect in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), since it reduces social and physical vulnerabilities, is a preventative measure, and mitigates disasters,” adding that the rehabilitation was in its second phase.
After the successful completion of the reconstruction pilot phase, an additional 400 houses will be reconstructed in village Manna. Community participation is being encouraged and village individuals motivated to play an active role in the reconstruction of their own homes, she said, adding that septic tanks are also being built. In the third and the final phase, Kashf Foundation will empower the communities through a “Financial Education Program”.
