KARACHI – A suspected would-be suicide bomber was accidentally killed in an explosion at an abandoned place behind the Malir Development Authority flats near the Shah Latif police station. Eyewitnesses in the area said that the explosion was intense and it destroyed the windows of several nearby houses.
After the blast, police and Rangers cordoned off the area and rescue teams rushed to the scene. “The explosion occurred in Shah Latif Town in an abandoned area. Only one man was killed and we suspect he was the same person who was carrying the explosives,” acting IG and Karachi CCPO Fayyaz Laghari told Pakistan Today.
“But it’s premature to say anything more about the person,” the CCPO added. Police found severed body parts at the explosion site. The head of a man was found on the branches of a tree and the blast formed a two to three feet crater at the spot. “It seems that the deceased was trying to detonate or plant a bomb” a police official said.
