Traders reject hike in petroleum prices

SIALKOT – Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA), Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PGMEA), Sialkot Markazi Anjuman Tajiran and other main trade bodies have rejected the recent hike in petroleum prices. SCCI President Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry, PRGMEA Central Chairman Ejaz A Khokhar, PGMEA Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Younas and Sialkot Markazi Anjuman Tajraan President Mehar Ghulam Mujtaba said this increase in petroleum prices would open the floodgates of price hike in the country.
They termed the decision a bomb for the export industry of Sialkot, saying that it would also ruin small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of the district. The decision seemed a conspiracy against the government, they said and added that this hike would prove fatal for the industrial sector which was already striving for its survival due to unending unscheduled load shedding of electricity and gas. 1.1M LOOTED FROM BANK: Four unidentified armed dacoits looted Rs 1.1 million from the bank staff at gunpoint during a dacoity in the United Bank Limited (UBL) Commissioner Road Branch, Sialkot Cantt.
Reportedly, the accused forced an entry into the bank during the light rainy weather, overpowered the security guard, took hostage all the bank staff and people present there, looted Rs 1.1 million and fled away. DOCTORS GO ON STRIKE: All the male and female doctors in Government Allama Iqbal Memorial District Headquarters Hospital Sialkot observed a day-long peaceful strike for the protection of their basic rights. All wards, including outpatient department, remained closed.
