KARACHI – The Sindh Assembly on Monday passed a resolution unanimously demanding of the Sindh government to ensure implementation of the 60-40 percent ratio of quota in government jobs and promotions of employees in government departments as well as autonomous bodies.
PPP’s Ghulam Mujadid Isran presented the resolution on Private Members Day of the assembly; the MQM, PML-F and other parties also supported the resolution.
Isran, while explaining his resolution, said that people belonging to rural areas of Sindh, were facing injustices due to violation of the quota system since the past 15 years. He said that with 15 years of experience could not get government jobs. Similarly, he added, officers belonging to rural areas were also ignored in their promotions under the quota system.
MQM’s Syed Sardar Ahmed and other party members supported the resolution. Ahmed said that it had remained general principle and therefore should be implemented. PML-F’s Nusrat Saher Abbasi said that not only the quota of 60-40 should be implemented in jobs and promotions, but special quota of minorities and special persons should also be followed.
PPP’s Syed Bachal Shah said that the Federal government should ensure implementation of the quota system in Sindh. Law Minister Ayaz Soomro admitted that the people of Sindh, especially Sindhi-speaking, have faced injustices on this account since long. Soomro complained that Sindhi officers who pass competitive examinations from Sindh Public Service Commission had to wait for 15 to 20 years for promotions, but those who passed the Federal Service Commission exams got promoted after three years.
