GUJRANWALA – Anti-Corruption Establishment and Special Judicial Magistrate Abdus Sattar arrested Old-Age Benefits Institution Assistant Director Ahmad Habib red handed while accepting Rs 50,000 from a factory owner. Reportedly, Ahmad Habib was forcing a local factory owner Salman Javed to give Rs 50,000 for showing less number of employees in the record than their actual number. Salman Javed informed the Anti-Corruption Establishment which planned a raiding party under the supervision of special judicial magistrate and arrested Ahmad Habib on the spot with marked currency-notes.
EDUCATION A MUST FOR PROGRESS: Former Information Secretary and Islamabad Quaid-i-Azam Library Chairman Muhammad Akram Shaheedi has said that no nation can make progress without education, so people should come forward to promote reading habits to achieve this goal. While addressing the annual function of Government High School Pindi Omra Shakargarh, he added that no individual, family or society could progress without education. There were no rigs here when he started his education in this school during fifties, he recalled and added that the school groomed him a lot in the early days.
He further said the students should work hard and explore opportunities in all walks of life to become doctors, engineers and even politicians to serve the country.
He donated Rs 250,000 for the development of the school and hoped that the school’s educational standard would go high in the coming years. The school’s headmaster said that more than 800 students had been enrolled and the locality still had no college for girls or boys.
HEALTH DEPARTMENT VOWS TO UPROOT POLIO: Polio is a fatal disease and the health department has been putting all-out efforts to uproot it for the sake of healthy future of the country. It was stated by Health Services Director Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema in a briefing held at the district coordination officer (DCO) office.
A three-day campaign is being started on March 7 in Gujranwala district while all departments must be fully prepared to achieve 100 percent success, he said and added District Monitoring Officer Zulfiqar Ali Bhowan would monitor the campaign. He further said the religious leaders should urge the masses to get their children vaccinated. He added the role of teachers and social workers was inevitable to create awareness of the disease and every child below the age of five must be vaccinated to eradicate it.
