Woman’s alleged rape by cop – Faryal Talpur directs IGP to submit report

KARACHI – Taking serious notice of alleged rape of a woman in Model Colony by a police sub-inspector, PPP Women Wing President Faryal Talpur on Monday directed the Sindh inspector general of police (IGP) to submit his report of the incident within 24 hours and take stern action against the accused if proven guilty, so that no one dares to commit such heinous crimes.
In a separate statement, PPP Women Wing Information Secretary Sharmila Farooqui stated that Talpur had directed the law enforcement agencies and other officials concerned to protect women rights and they are themselves involved in such deplorable incidents.
“Such officers are a stain on the civilised face of the Pakistani society and should be punished according to the law and made exemplary for others,” she added.
Talpur has issued directives to keep women police personnel in the police stations to avoid such incidents in future, she said.
Farooqui said the number of women police stations should be increased in order to solve the problems of women. The male policemen should be given training how to talk and resolve the issues of women and behave politely with women, she added.
The former adviser said that the present government was committed to protect the rights of women and children at all levels and strict action would be taken against those who were found involved in violation of women and children’s rights.
