UMT and Fatih University declared sister universities

Lahore – MoUs were signed between University of Management and Technology (UMT) and Fatih University Istanbul to foster long term academic links, exchange programs and issues of mutual benefit for all stakeholders today when both universities were declared as sister universities.
A high ranking Turkish delegation comprising of Fatih University Istanbul Vice Chancellor Dr Serifali Tekalan, Marmara University Istanbul Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Gul, 29 Mayis University Istanbul Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ibrahim Kafi, Melikshah University Kayseri Prof Dr Rashid Malik, Besiktas District Governor Saodeffin Yucel, MTE President M Turan Eris, Pakturk Businessmen Association Chairman Turgut Puyan and other officials visited UMT campus.
UMT Rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, university officials and faculty members received the delegation. Delegation leader Dr Serifali Tekalan led the flag hoisting ceremony where national anthems of the two countries were played. The Turkish delegation later toured the campus. Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad briefed the guests about University’s history. He said UMT was established in 1990 and had been offering professional and executive development programs since then.
The university was affiliated with Hamdard University later and began to offer degree programs from 1993 onwards. Dr Hasan said a milestone was reached in 2002 when it received the University Charter. He said UMT had 4500 students, 200 faculty members and 550 staff and faculty members and at present 6 schools, 3 institutes and 12 centers were working in UMT.
Dr Hasan said UMT was distinct in three ways; a philosophy that focused only on teaching and career building, concept of learning besides imparting practical career oriented skills for success and cardinal principle of leadership. “This combination of life, learning and leadership is essential towards ensuring justice, happiness and peace in the world for humanity”, he said. Dr Hasan thanked Turgut Puyan and his team for working towards strengthening Pak-Turk ties.
Dr Serifali Tekalan said UMT visit was a pleasant experience. He invited Dr Hasan to visit Turkey and said that a modern University was being set up in collaboration of Pak-Turk Foundation.
