LAHORE – Toa Dubai rugby club won the Sharjah 10s title as four Pakistan national team players, who are in Dubai for studies and work, shone for the top premiership club.
The Pakistani players playing in the series were Shiraz Niazi, Adnan Niazi, Azmat Niazi (all three play for Islamabad Jins rugby club) and Sair Riaz (plays for Punjab and Lahore Rams).
The Sharjah 10s had 25 teams competing from across the Gulf, consisting mostly of expats from rugby playing countries such as England, Samoa, Australia and New Zealand.
Toa Duabi consists of mainly Samoans and includes the All Black legend Christian Cullen and ex-Samoan international Trevor Leota.
Sair Riaz stood out in the semi-final. All other Pakistani players also contributed during the tournament by scouring for the team. Azmat Niazi was declared man of the tournament. The final was a hard fought match, with Toa defeating Abu Dhabi 7-0. In the semi-final, they beat a South African side 36-0. President Pakistan Rugby Union Fawzi Khawaja praised the 4 boys for their performance and congratulated them on the win.
