KARACHI – COMMECS – the old students’ association of the Government College of Commerce and Economics, Karachi and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) are organising the ‘Mera Pakistan Conference 2011’ at Marriot Hotel on March 11. Mera Pakistan is a dream project that is meant to portray the real picture of Pakistan as a land of immense opportunities and diversity. The concept of Mera Pakistan is to bring a positive change in the mindsets of not only the people of the country but of the entire world about the way they perceive Pakistan. The conference aims to launch Mera Pakistan as a continued mission, where leading professionals and businesspersons from different sectors of the industry will share their knowledge and ideas.
“It is not a conference but a big step towards changing the way Pakistan is perceived,” said COMMECS President Mohammed Asif while speaking at a press conference along with KCCI President Saeed Shafiq on Tuesday. He said the conference was aimed to explore the unexplored sectors of Pakistan in a positive manner. Asif was of the view that propagation of negative image of the country in local and international media has damaged the business environment in the country, adding that the media needs to present a positive image of Pakistan.
“We are rich in natural resources and manpower and we need to give hope to youngsters,” he maintained. The COMMECS president said that renowned speakers from various sectors have been invited to the conference including those from multinational companies. They include former SBP governor Ishrat Hussain, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, leading scientist of the country Dr Samar Mubarak and federal ministers.
Asif said that the COMMECS will also follow such conferences to be held in other parts of the country as well. Later, KCCI president Saeed Shafiq said that there was a need to improve the image of Pakistan worldwide to attract foreign investment and bolster the economy. The conference would be fully supported and sponsored by the KCCI to highlight the achievements made by the country in various sectors of economy so far, he added.
