LAHORE – In order to prove his innocence in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) land purchase scam, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Chaudhry Moonis Elahi visited the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Office at the Regal Chowk to record his statement but the FIA sent him back again asking him to present his interim bail papers if he had any.
According to details, Moonis, son of former Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, is accused of taking around Rs 320 million in the NICL scam. He said that during his previous visit to the FIA Office, the authority had asked him to appear before the inquiry committee on March 1. Talking to journalists outside the FIA Office, the PML-Q MPA said that he had a great respect for the law and judiciary and had come to the FIA Office to face the baseless charges made against him in order to defame him.
Moonis said that he was born in Pakistan and would die here as well adding that he came here to answer all questions but despite waiting for two hours, FIA officials did not present any charge sheet against him. Moonis’ supporters were also present on the occasion and chanted slogans such as “Moonis Teray Jaan Nisar, Bey Shumar Bey Shumar” and also cheered every word of his speech.
FIA spokesman Haroon told journalists that officials had told Moonis, during his last visit, to get interim bail according to directions of the Sindh High Court (SHC). He said that the inquiry committee met Moonis and requested him to present valid documents regarding interim bail but he failed to provide them. The FIA official said that although Moonis got protective bail from Sindh but the SHC has clearly mentioned that the PML-Q MPA could appear before investigators after getting pre-arrest bail from the trial court concerned.
Haroon also showed the application written by Moonis to the FIA and said that investigators have returned the application after writing directions on it.
