FBR given month to submit report on ISAF container losses

ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Monday granted one month to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to prepare a final report on the whopping losses of Rs 19 billion to Rs 36 billion caused to the national exchequer by the containers meant for supplies to ISAF forces in Afghanistan, which entered the Pakistani territory over the past four years in the name of Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) and pilfered causing the losses.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muhammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani directed the FBR that the final report should be prepared keeping in view all aspects of the case to help the court reach a conclusion.
Appearing on notice, FBR Chairman Salman Siddique told the court that a recovery of about Rs 70 billion could be expected. He said the Afghan authorities were completely cooperating in the investigation into the scam. He said all the electronic data about the scam had been collected, however adding that more time was required for its examination.
