BISP to support 70 families in 2011

KARACHI – Seventy low-income families will be provided financial assistance under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) in 2011, said BISP Director General Sindh Akbar Shamim Aleem on Tuesday. While presiding over a meeting at the provincial office, Aleem said that a survey of households and families eligible for relief has been conducted across the country through different partnerships and collaborations. Based on the results of this survey, the relief would be conveyed to the families in a transparent manner, he added.
The BISP director general said the programme is working to eliminate poverty from the country and women are being paid financial assistance of Rs 1,000 every month through Waseela-e-Haq balloting. The purpose of the programme is to sponsors eligible families to make a person from their family skilful by getting training or technical education, Aleem said, adding that the programme assists the country’s poorest families to get loans, technical training, health insurance and social safety. “The programme has become a social protection system,” said BISP director general.
