KARACHI – Pfizer Pakistan launched renowned artist Marjorie Husain’s book titled ‘A World Without Smoking: One Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words’ at the Indus Valley School Gallery on Monday. This coffee-table book focuses on delivering the anti-smoking message through an amalgamation of 57 anti-smoking posters and their descriptions that have been prepared by school-going children.
This book is a part of a massive art campaign titled ‘A world without smoking’ that took place last year and traces its roots back to 2007 when the International Union Against Cancer initiated a worldwide campaign.
Pfizer Pakistan became one of the active campaigners in this drive by initiating a project in 2009, and the idea focused on generating interest among school-going children. The competition culminated into an exhibition of these posters and the book is a documentation of the efforts of these children in conveying a strong, smoke-free message to all and sundry.
According to the organisers, special recognition is due to the wonderful faculty members of the chosen schools that generously provided their time and enthusiasm to the project, and encouraged by these schools, the students participated in the competition with enthusiasm.
They acknowledged the North Nazimabad campus of The Citizens Foundation, the Defence Authority campus of the CAS School, the Convent of St Joseph in Saddar, and the PAF chapter of The City School.
