Young protesters demand Davis’ execution

LAHORE – About 100 activists from different schools of thought staged a protest on Sunday demanding the execution of Raymond Davis. Young protesters from the Pakistan Revolution Movement, Pakistan Ethesab Party and Khaksaar Tehreek Pakistan gathered at the Lahore Press Club and demanded the government banish American spies from Pakistan. The protesters chanted slogans against the US and its discriminatory policies towards the third world countries.
The activists agreed that the US was creating unrest in Pakistan through its diplomats to strengthen the roots of terrorism. The protesters also demanded the government secure Dr Aafia Siddiqui’s release from US custody. The protesters said that Raymond, not having diplomatic immunity, must be trialed under Pakistani law and should be sentenced to death for killing innocent Pakistanis.
They wanted Americans to leave the country. People commuting across the Press Club also got involved in the protest. Later, the protesters marched towards the US Consulate and presented a memorabilia to the chief security officer of the consulate, demanding American President Barrack Obama to accept the criminal charge on Raymond Davis and respect Pakistani courts.
The memoranda mentioned that Davis’ killing of two Pakistanis was proved but American courts failed to produce strong evidence against Pakistani scientist Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Heavy contingents of the police were called at the US consulate to avoid any untoward incident but the protest ended peacefully.
