‘Varsities need quality assurance cells’

KARACHI – It is essential to set up quality assurance cells at universities so that the standard of education could be improved, said Dow University Quality Enhancement Cell Director Dr Abdul Wahid Usmani during a function at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) on Monday.
Dr Usmani said that quality assurance cells would help foster research and also check academic standards. He said that for the progress of a university, it is necessary that its syllabus should be in accordance with the present day needs and the teaching staff should be highly qualified and well-trained.
The laboratories should have modern equipment and libraries need to be equipped with latest books. FUUAST Research Director Prof Dr Qamarul Haq, said that the FUUAST has three campuses and it has been focusing on quality education and research, enhancing its ranking among top universities.
