LAHORE – The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday directed federal and provincial government to submit a reply on an application against ‘extra facilities’ being given to double murder accused US citizen Raymond Allen Davis at Kot Lakhpat jail.
Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffrey filed this application regarding accused Raymond, requesting a withdrawal of all facilities.
He alleged that the accused was enjoying facility of cellular phone, internet, and extraordinary tight security in violation of standards written in jail manual. He also prayed to the court to order recording of Raymond trial in jail.
The applicant further said that deputy attorney general, who represents federation in the court, be directed to file on March 14, next hearing on main case, a report regarding developments and progress in Raymond Davis case and not to waste time of the court by giving verbal dillydallying statements.
He said the DAG be also directed to tell the court about correct identification of the accused Raymond if had been accomplished and any pressure on government from any corner to alter the original documents of the accused US citizen in a bid to give him undue diplomatic immunity.
Barrister Jaffrey also prayed to the court that former foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi should be summoned in court for recording of his statement as he had said that Raymond had no diplomatic immunity. After hearing the contention, the chief justice asked the Deputy Attorney General Naveed Inayat Malik, present in the courtroom, to file reply on the application by
March 14.
